When i went to Cancun my friend bought calling cards at a drug store, they're the ones that you can use at a public phone, just ask the cashier. They last long and are cheap. |

there are a lot of cards to call from mexico to the eua
but, if you need one now,
you can go to any OXXO store, or almost any store and ask for a TARJETA LADATEL
you insert this card in any public phone (there are a lot in all the places) and call to the eua
first country code + state code + your number

Oxxo sells them but your cheapest option is voice over IP. I call home daily using it.
Just remembered I need tomake my daily call.
Voice over IP is BY FAR the CHEAPEAT option. |

For about $40 you can get a magicJack. It plugs into your laptop and you can plug your phone into it. Once set up, you can choose any area code they have available. Then when you go to MX or any other country for that matter, you can any number in the states or Canada for free through your internet connection. If the folks in the states also have one, they can call you in MX or where ever for free , also.
2nd years subscription costs $20. That's all the expense there is... no fees, taxes, service plans, blah, blah, blah.
I heard about it on a blog where a guy in La Paz, Baja South Calif. had one and he called his kids and mother (they all had one, also) back in the states and it was free...no charges.
So I got one...can't believe it....it actually works and generally the sound is like they were sitting next to me.
