Where did the Maya live?

They still live as far north as the Yucatan Peninsula (Mexico), down through Central America, particularly around Honduras, El Salvador, Belize and Guatemala.

Mayans did NOT live in Peru (those were the Incas) and they did NOT live in Mexico City or central Mexico (those were the Aztecs). This is not to say there weren't any individuals living there, but these were major Indian forces that although may have shared some similarities (in our eyes), they had different beliefs.

Most people have touched on all of the current countries or Mexican States but there is a map here to assist you:

Also - for the record Mayans still live in these areas. There is no need for past tense.

They still live in Southern Mexico and Central America.

salsera
Southern Mexico, Guatemala, and some other countries in Central American. A few live in Perú, but mostly the Incas live in Perú. Academia is wrong. The Aztecs live in Mexico City.

From Wikipedia:
The largest populations of contemporary Maya are in the Mexican states of Yucatán, Campeche, Quintana Roo, Tabasco, and Chiapas, and in the Central American countries of Belize, Guatemala, and the western portions of Honduras and El Salvador.

txensen
The classic Maya lived in the Guatemalan highlands and also the eastern lowlands and jungles of Guatemala, Honduras, Belice, and El Salvador. The classic Maya site of Tikal in the Peten jungle area of Guatemala features the highest Maya pyramids. The site of Copan in Honduras marks the approximate southern limit of the classic Maya region.

The Maya later moved into the Yucatan (now part of Mexico) and nearby areas, where they created great cities such as Coba and Uxmal. The famous site of Chichen Itza in the northern Yucatan is one of the later Maya sites, and it shows influences from the non-Maya cultures of Central Mexico (present Mexico City).

Unlike the Aztecs, the Maya were never really defeated, and they continue to constitute the largest population group in all of these areas. The current conflicts in Chiapas can be viewed as a continuation of the long struggle of the Maya against foreign invadors.

Mexico City (I think)

Mostly south of Mexico, especially in the state of Yucatan (that's where Cancun is in). Lost of lush tropical forest. There are still native indians in those area.
