Do you want to live in an area with many gringos? if so, it will not be cheap. Touristy areas and gringo areas are more expensive. There are many small towns with much lower costs than those places. I like small town within half an hour of a larger city for conveniences I live near Coatepec in the stateof Veracruz...perfect weather, green, beautiful, few gringos, "real" Mexico. The problem is..living here just 6 months of the year. Do you plan to buy a house and just use it 6 mo. a yr? Or do you plan to rent? Hard to get rentals for just 6 mo. and few rentals are furnished. In touristy, gringoareas like Chapalla and the beach communities, that is not as much of a problem...but costs are higher. Since you want to live here for just 6 mo. a year, Iwonder if you are Canadian...many Canadians do that. Etzatlan, Jalisco is also a nice little town...near Guadalajara....see website below. I Have also put some links for Canadian retirees below. If I can answer any more specific questions, please email me. |

If you go where all the gringos go every winter season the rent will not be cheap. Studio apartments where I live were going for $6-700us a month last year.
If you can do without gringos, English language and a number of other NOB standards ... you could do cheap.
But then you never gave us a ballpark price |

Pretty much everywhere in Mexico is cheap, except for the areas where there are a lot of tourists and Americans/other foreign people living, then the prices go up. The dollar is running about equivalent to 9 pesos right now.
Your difficulty is going to be finding a rental for six months out of the year, unless you plan to buy something. You will also need to remember that a lot of the more rural areas are not going to be what you are used to as far as access to healthcare, etc. There are still places that do not have indoor plumbing. There is a lot to consider, some health insurance companies will not cover people living outside of the primary country of coverage, check into tax issues, etc.
Do a web search on living in Mexico, retiring to Mexico, etc. you will find a lot of information that way. Also remember that the more rural you go, the less likely you are to find a lot of people that speak English, you may want to brush up on your spanish. |

Taxco is beautiful, a bit touristy, but not too much, and relatively cheap. Its just a couple hours from Acapulco, and close to Toluca as well (nothing special in Toluca....that I know as I live there) |

Way out in the country, maybe Tecate or the Valle Guadalupe, wine country. Far away from the gringo enclaves.. Newcomers have ruined it for retirees. There are some nice condos on the Black Sea in Bulgaria, I'm thinking of moving there from rich people's Baja. Good Luck. |
