There is a an advertisement that goes like this... "You haven't been to CancÃºn until you have been to Coco Bongo's". That is very true! Coco Bongo's is a must go to club in CancÃºn... it's a blast!!! It's the most popular club in CancÃºn and is world famous. Also, you need to go to Senor Frogs. It's more of a bar than a night club, but it's the second most popular place in CancÃºn. Other than those two you should check out The City (name of a club), Dos Equis Bar, Dady O, Dady Rocks, Bulldogs, and Congo.
If you want a romantic dinner go to Lorenzillo's. It's a seafood restaurant and they have the best lobster you will ever eat and you can have a romantic dinner outside while watching the sun set. Very, very nice place to go and eat.
Carlos n' Charlies is also a good restaurant to visit.
Bubba Gump's is also a neat place to go. It's based of the movie Forrest Gump... it's neat there!
Also, Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville is a cool place to drink and eat. If you want an authentic Mexican feel of a restaurant and food you need to check out Pericos. It's located in the "real" downtown CancÃºn know as El Centro. La Madonna is good also.

One thing you need to do is go on Captain Hook's Pirate Dinner Cruise. You get on one of two ships and and go out into the Caribbean and have dinner then on the way back the two ships converge and put on a pirate fight. It's really neat and fun.
Carnival Night Cruise is neat also. You get on a ferry and go over to Isla Mujeres and drink on the way over then they have a dinner/party on the island (kind of like a luau in Hawaii) then you go back to CancÃºn on the ferry and can drink some more. Lots of fun!
Have fun and enjoy your time... CancÃºn is a blast!!!

Coco Bongo was an awesome experience...
Find locally owned restaurants the food is better and much much cheaper...
Get yourself a couple boogie boards, we spent all day doing that one day it was a blast...
Swim with the dolphins...
Senor frogs was a lot of fun also...
Those were the highlights of my trip!

I second Coco Bongo's!! Went there a couple of years ago, tipped the waiter about Â£10 and we had un continual drinks all night, whatever we wanted, no questions no hassle - You get what you pay for and must say prob one of the best nights ever!

Cancun was horrible. I had meant to stay there for a long time but ended up staying for just an afternoon.

Go to La Isla Mujeres which is an island just off Cancun. It's beautiful. The beaches are wonderful without being too crowded and their are dozens of places to eat seafood. There are also lots of bars which stay open late. You can also get scooters and ride around the island. Pure bliss. I was in Mexico for 2 months and this island was definitely a highlight!

Smart-as-a-whip

Suggest staying in Riviera Maya rather than Cancun proper. Cancun is no different than any other coastal resort town in the USA. Riviera Maya is where all of the "all inclusive" resorts are located.

We stayed at Xcaret Resort. I would minimally go to the Eco Park, and the pyramids at Telum.
