Ringo is right and I'm agree with him and I also think that if you do stupids things it every where will be dangerous to live in, for example if you walk by your self alone at night that will be stupid and dangerous, if you carry with all your money that also will be stupid, if you walk around with jewelry that wil be stupid too.. so just just you common sense and you will be ok.

There is the Juarez cartel in the state of Chihuahua.
There is the Tijuana cartel in the state of Baja California.
There is the Sinaloa cartel in the state of Sinaloa.
There is the Gulf Cartel cartel in the state of Tamaulipas.
There is the Sonora cartel in the state of Sonora.

Los Zetas are involved in myriad criminal activities. They have branched out into kidnappings, murder-for-hire, extortion, money-laundering and human smuggling. For security purposes, Los Zetas have adopted a cell-like structure to limit the information that any one member of the organization knows about his associates.

Supplying drugs to the United States is a 400 billion dollar business. And each cartel want to supply the biggest share of the drugs and make the most money. So they try to kill each other to control the drug corridors. If you're ever in a border town and you see a bunch of black SUVs converging on an area, quickly run in the opposite direction.

If everybody in America stopped using drugs today, the cartels would go out of business tomorrow and the killing would stop.

slums at tijuana, the east side of Mexico City, border towns with heavy drug wars to cross the stuff to the USA,

But the worst of all is not even at the news, there are places in Mexico in the mountains of the southern states of Guerrero, Oaxaca , and Chia pas where people suffer from the worst poverty of the country, compared with some places in Africa, hunger, bad nutrition, no services at all, no electricity no water sources, not even a paved road

Tijuana is a border town where the police are corrupted by the drug cartels (the Mexican drug lords and their gangs). It's also a major point of entry into the US for illegal immigrants. So, there is a built-in criminal element there and limited police protection. There is also a lot of poverty, since the people looking to sneak into the US either don't have any money or they spent it all on "coyotes" who smuggle them into the US. That adds a level of desperation to encourage people to turn to crime, especially against relatively wealthy Americans.

It used to be that American tourists could go down to Tijuana and points south (Rosarito and Ensenada) without incident. The Federales (Mexican police) would occasionally shake someone down for running a stop sign or something and accept a bribe to let the person go. But, they understood that their economy was absolutely dependent on the American tourism dollars, so it wasn't really that dangerous a place.

For the last several months, American tourists have been increasingly harassed by armed gangs of Mexicans who rob them, hijack their cars at gunpoint, or even kidnap them for ransom. The warring drug cartels who are fighting for control of Northern Baja (including Tijuana and Ensenada) have also caused a lot of collateral damage. In the last year, some 5,000 people (almost all Mexicans) have been killed along the border from California to Texas because of the drug cartels.

The Mexican government is trying to get the drug cartels under control. But, even the police have been known to join up with the drug cartels instead of risking fighting them. So, you can't even trust the police to help you or protect you from the crime and violence. And, the best thing to do is just stay away.

the worst place to live in mexico is mexico city, it is overpopulated and has inadequate services. Border towns are indstrial and do not have aesthetic appeal but are far better than Mexico city.

Border towns are nasty because of all the drugs, poverty and prostitution, and with the war against cartels raging it's like a battle field... the more you head south the better.
