I am leaving for Mazatlan at 5am tomorrow(9th) never been there before. I suddenly realized I did not get any Pesos from the bank. Is it OK buying Pesos with US dollars when I'm there or could I get ripped off?
Don't try to use Dollars in Mazatlan - it's not the same kind of tourist resort as Cancun. Anyway they would give you a 10-1 exchange and the rate lately ia 12-1
Exchange some Dollars at the Mazatlan airport and get more pesos from ATM machines in town. Tell your ATM company you are going to Mexico
mr g
you don't buy pesos.
go to an exchange. there is one in every good airport.
use an american (i'm an aussie but i'm guessing you are american) airport if you are scared of getting ripped off.
if u have time compare exchange fees. Peace.

If you know your math you won't get ripped off, if you drink Tequilla you will! Our good southern brothers are always waiting for us to lower our guards, to take advantage and make a little extra dinero. If you use U.S. dollars to pay for something over their they will return your change in Mexican Pesos, just know the current dollar exchange and you will be fine.

all right first you can trade the money for pesos in the airport but do not do that the airport will rip you off more. first go to the market town or place thier will be signs every where that says money change or something like that do not go to a bank one thing to remmeber find how much the doller is worth the last time i checked was 1 dollar is 9 pesos but it may have gone down (thank you govt) but the most important things to do is this check all of the places that change each one is different and also lie say at one place the clerk says its worth less just say that the clossest one pays more that way he gets competition and he lowers it some more and if you dont know spanish hire a kid that does for an hour and give one peso trust me he will appreciate that.

You can pay with American dollars in Mexico. You don't need Pesos!
