Where would you recommend visiting in Mexico?

If you are really interested in learning about Mexico, don't go to the traditional tourist / spring break spots. Try Oaxaca where you'll have access to some of the most beautiful virgin beaches, beautiful architecture and enriching culture in Oaxaca City, and some of the best food I've ever had! There are plenty of language schools and you can even take some cooking classes if you're interested.

Almost all of Mexico you'll find a the Spanish flare. Everyone seems to speaks Spanish, and English. They are more then willing to speak to you in spanish...

here is a link or two to help you in your travels, I know they helped me when I traveled to Mexico:

Go to Cancun and then travel west into the forest to the first small town called Plasencia.

Cancun
Ixtapa
Huatulco
Los Cabos
Vallarta
Acapulco
Chiapas

It depends on what you like to enjoy: the sea, the city, the traditions, old buildings, shopping, night life, food, etc.

Please, just take more precautions than in your mother country and enjoy!

Cancun is a terrible place to experience local culture; it's a huge Americanized resort area. However most of the Yucatan peninsula is very nice and full of local flavor, including Maya Indians, whether in small towns or in a big one like Merida, which has lots of attractive colonial buildings.

I personally favor southern Mexico in general...its more traditional and colorful and also cheaper. Oaxaca as someone mentioned is a great place. I personally have a soft spot for San Cristobal, a colonial city up in the cool pineforested mountains surrounded by Maya Indians- just don't wander randomly into remote villages as there is some tension still over the Zapatistas or whatnot, although San Cris and the major villages like Chamula and Zinacantan are fine.

It is easier to pick out the places where it is much harder to develop Spanish and get a taste for local culture. Mexico has developed a few areas only for tourist hotels. You mostly associate with other Americans from the north. They include Cancun, Cabo San Lucas. and Ixtapa. Almost everywhere outside of the tourist zones is wonderful. If you try Puerto Vallarta, it is a great place. The small towns around Bandaras Bay give you a traditional view of Mexico, and Puerto Vallarta has all the culture of a big city. Just don't stay in Nuevo Vallarta, or any of the big hotels in town. Find a nice small place and enjoy paradise.

Cancun, Mexico........beautiful

Due Jul-10-09 with Baby Boy!
Well, seems everyone on here loves Cancun, good to hear since I am going there on my honeymoon in March, but if you are looking for a cheaper trip we went to Puerto Vallarta to the Royal Decameron in May 07 and had a great time, the beach was great the sand was great, the people were amazing, i had a blast shopping at this small town just down the beach called Buserias, it was the real mexican feel, my fiance bought my promise ring from a jeweler there, and when it was appraised here it was worth double what he paid. All around GREAT trip!!!

Cancun is gorgeous! I recommend the Secrets, Excellence Resort, Riviera Cancun. It is beautiful there, its all inclusive (best way to go in Mex) so you are able to go to the five restaurants at the resort & get drinks around the resort for free! It is courteous to give a tip though. But imagine eating at a restaurant where it would cost you $70-$100 + tip,but instead it only costs you the tip, about $10-$20. Visit their website. There are many other resorts around Cancun that are all inclusive, but my husband & I went there for my honeymoon & absolutely LOVED it, we are planning to go back on our 5 year anniversary.
