Which Hotel is best to stay in Cancun? Any other suggestions of what to do and see while we are there?

It really depends on how many days you are staying. Also - are you traveling alone or with someone else. This could affect your per person price (usually higher if traveling alone).

When you say $800 - is this hotel only or air + hotel? I recommend booking everything together - you might save.

As far as hotels go, I think the Oasis Hotels are a good budget value - as far as all-inclusive go. They are rather new or newly renovated. Among my favorites rank Le Meridien Cancun and Hilton Cancun. Now these are rather luxurious, and do not include all meals, but if you look into impressing the right person, this might be it. I would go as far as to recommend these hotels for honeymoons (although I would personally hate spending the honeymoon in Cancun).

Good prices on online agencies: always start with expedia, but don't forget to compare with apple, as well as the following list of my favorites (always compare):
www.cheapcaribbean.com (caveat: the price you see at first does not include all taxes)
www.beachdestinations.com (cons - I find their user interface rather clumsy at times - but I got some really good prices in the past).
www.applevacations.com (you could book charter flights and save)
If you are going to book hotel only - go through the hotels and see what they might have - but expect the prices to be higher.

We stayed at the FiestAmericana Grand Coral Beach and it was very nice. While at Cancun, we went to Isla Mujeres (better suitied for adults as there aren't many activities just for kids), Chichenitza and Xcaret (?).

I personally wouldnt go for all inclusive... I hate the food- very low quality. If you must stay at an all inclusive then go for Paradisus. Otherwise, the BEST hotel around is the Ritz. Check out the website. I live 3 hours away from Cancun and we go pretty often (like once a month). I've tried out many hotels and so far the Ritz is the one we've liked the most.

My husband and I have been to the Sun Palace 3 times. Many advantages to staying at a Palace hotel. They are All Inclusive! Food, Premium liquor & drinks, mini bar in room, a few excellent excursion(esp. the catarmaran cruise to Isa Mujeris). You can eat, swim, or use services at all 5 Palace resorts. 6 star service,live entertainment, cleanliness! The best all inclusive vacation anywhere in the world (and we've been around!)

if ur young stay at the oasis cancun (all young ppl) great party resort. bring lots of $$ and make sure you party evrynight. The clubs are amazing, they're about $40US to get in but drinks are included.

Depending on who youre going with and what kind of budget you've got. We've done the Hotetur when we were a little low on money. All Inclusive. Loved it for the money. (the bartenders Moses and Marco were AWESOME!) and then theres the RIU CANCUN. That was by far my favorite.

Stay in the southern or middle of the hotel zone. Check to make sure the beach is ok and they do not shuttle you to another hotel. Playa del Carmen is great at night walking along 5th ave.

I like the southern part of the State of Quintana Roo about 4 hr. south of Cancun.
