I would say Hermosillo, Sonora, MĂ©xico.
It is in the middle of the desert..., somewhat like Las Vegas..., the bad thing it is that you cant find much in there..., you probably would like to go to Tijuana, or to a city in Sinaloa state. |

In August when you plan to go is the heart of the rainy season in Mexico. I'm not sure anywhere is a good bet for low humidity at that time. |

Anywhere in the northwest but far fromt he coast, including the city of Chihuahua, San Luis Potosi, Guanajuato or Zacatecas. But you're not likely to find direct flights to any of those fromt he US. |

I would try Aguascalientes and Zacatecas, both cities are about 1.5 hours away by car. I don´t think you'd be able to get a direct flight, but there are a lot of historic sites to visit. |
