Both towns are going to be safe, but If you are really conscious about this, Puerto Vallarta is near Guadalajara, where in the past had some drug related crimes. (PV is about 3 hours from Guadalajara) Los Cabos, has no history of crime so you will be deciding your trip I will say Los Cabos. What you have to keep in mind is that in Los Cabos everything is much more expensive than in Puerto Vallarta, since Los Cabos is newer, you will probably pay the same for your hotel, but restaurants, bars, tours , are going to be much more expensive. You will be safe in both towns.... I hope this helps and please feel to contact me on my email If you have any further questions. |

I have been PV many times, but I live in Cabo, and so I'm biased. I believe Cabo to be extremely safe. We do have lots of transients due to the high level of construction here right now, but the local people are awesome and friendly.
Over the past few years we've had a few strip joints open and with that the prostitution and drug dealers have moved in, but PV has its share of the same problems. |

I've been to Puerto Vallarta twice, never had a problem, and felt very safe. I would walk the town by myself. There are lots of people there, just blend in. Have fun! I'd go again if I could! |

I live here in Puerto Vallarta and I never had any kind of problem with crime. But yes, some crime allways exists.
To Your question, regarding the mexican people You can be sure that both cities have the same crime rate. In both places the government and the police is well organized to assure the security to the tourism. In comparison to Mexico City in PV or Cabo San Lucas mexican crime does not exist.
The difference in crime depends on the tourism itself. Police allways helps the tourists and never to the mexican people.
But there are coming with the tourists also many criminal people from the United States.
As Los Cabos is more expensive and more money moves, it is more interesting for organized US criminals.
Also Los Cabos is younger and the local government is not as experienced like the Puerto Vallarta government in fighting foreign organized crime.
One example could be, that years ago many US Sextourists came to Vallarta, building up traffic with children. This thing now is more or less under control, several involved US citizens are here or in the US in jail. And Puerto Vallarta became less attractive for them as they know, that police will search and find them. |
