Which has clearer water cozumel or playa del carmen (both mexico)?

Some not to clear answers before. Love the misinformation about Cozumel being crowded from someone who has never been there. Cozumel is an island built on a reef system that is the second largest reef in the world. Because the reef is between Cozumel and mainland Mexico and runs much further south, the water is home to many species of aquatic life and plants. Fish do not stay in areas that area ll sand with no rocks or hiding places, which is why Cozumel is probably the best place in the world for diving and snorkeling. Cozumel only gets crowded when all the cruise boats are in port and you stay in the town area. If you avoid the jewelry and cigar stores in town, it is not crowded with cruisers. You can rent a a car and go the east side of the island and walk for miles without seeing anybody or very few people at a small beach bar. PDC (Playa del Carmen) gets more crowded as the drunks from Cancun tend to spill over into PDC after dark. Your choice

I went to Cancun and I stayed at a hotel near Cozumel. I went there on a day trip, and the water is beautiful. I dont remember much from playa del carmen (I went there a few years ago), but I would go with Cozumel. I dont think its as crowded either.

If you're going snorkeling, you would definately want to choose cozumel because they have some of the BESTsnorkeling.

cozumel is the island juss infront of playa del carmen so they both have the same warm and clear water and u can do snorkeling in both

Cozumel is an island, and Playa del Carmen is the continental port to go to the island. They are exactly in front each other, like Manhattan island to continental part of New York city (well, but without the huge city in the case of Playa del Carmen and Cozumel).

I've been there; I must say that Cozumel is much more modern and nice than Playa del Carmen, wich is a small town actually. The water is the same, so does the sand.

cozumel has clearer water but if there is a storm then u might want to look into playa del carmen because even storms sometmes cant mess hat place up. but cozumel is nicer and better for the tourist especially one with money because there are alot of nic ethings there

cozumel is a major port of call for a lot of cruise lines and is really really crowded. i've never been to cozumel, but i've been to playa del carmen and the beaches are absolutely gorgeous. there are mayan (or something of that sort .. ) ruins, beautiful beaches, and it feels less touristy than most of the other popular mexican destinations.

we all know its in mexico and i went to both cause they are both near eachother, cozumel is a much better place and better beaches
