ok so i'm from Cancun (not living there for the moment) and I'd say hell yeah com to cancun and party up all day &nyte long! but again as sum other dude said that depends on what are ur priorities take in consideration that cancun is more a Nytelife enviroment just party(drunk americans screamin' in da streets half naked) best resorts all inclusive are there from 3 star rated hotels to 5 stars and diamond like the Ritz Cartoln that of course if you're willing to pay quite sum money, every hotel there has its own private beach not open to local residents( really sucked for us believe me!) now if u want to sighseeing u can buy tours from cancun to all riviera maya, that including Playa del Carmen(from plan del carmen cozumel wich has such a gorgeus coral reefs for diving), Tulum, Xcaret(now u can't leave Mexico or cancun without visiting XCARET IS A MUST!!! www.xcaret.com)xel ha, Isla mujeres and even visit Merida and Chichen Itza basically what i'm trying to say here is that u can go everywhere in the riviera maya and Yucatan peninsula departing from cancun so it's with a tour package or by yourlselves(Public transportation are 24/7)ok mis amigos hopefully these will help u, have fun "hasta luego"! |

Cancun for you, I love Playa, but Cancun is your best bet.
Cancun has a club atmosphere, Playa is more of a laid back bar scene. You can still go to Playa from Cancun it's only about 40 min. away. (Public buses run from Cancun to Playa all day. Then across from Playa is the Island of Cozumel, only worth going to if you scuba dive. Ferries run to and from Playa all day. Check out some of the tours, during the day. I suggest going to Xel-Ha/Tulum tour, you can check out the ruins at Tulum and Xel-Ha is an eco park where you can snorkel and sunbathe. The Jungle tour is also fun in Cancun, you will drive boats through the mangroves of Cancun and then snorkel one of the lovely reef systems of the Yucatan. Check out mycancuntours.com, the prices are all about the same. Last time I booked the jungle tour through Lomas-Travel, it's under the adventure tour and the tour is actually called the jungle tour.
Early June is a nice time to go, it gets a little hot in the mid-summer months. |

It completely depends what you are looking for. I was in Playa Del Carmen in June and the weather was perfect, although that is coming into the rainy season and from July onwards you are looking at the hurricane season so I would recommend Dec - June.
Cancun is massive, full of bars, nightclubs restaurants and shops...... oh and Americans, I have nothing against them but it is geared towards them. I found it a little impersonal and didn't see too many beaches. It was also filled with high rise hotels that seemed a little impersonal.
Playa del Carmen is about 1 - 1 1/2 hours from the airport dependant on how many stops there are, but it has a beautiful beach and a direct ferry link to Cozumel which is supposed to be lovely. A lot of the hotels looked geared towards younger people and some of them looked like backpacker hangouts, filled with really interesting people. We stayed in Xcaret in a big all inclusive resort and we were well looked after. The shopping in Playa was interesting and one of the streets was filled with touristy shops so Cancun may be better for more classy shops.
Have a good time. |

Playa Del Carmen is little and not too much to do. Since you girls are both pretty young, i would suggest Cancun...good beaches, shopping and nightlife. |

For best night life Cancun, and February is great, really hot, no tropical storms and still packed. Really popular with Americans.
Playa del Carmen is lovely and less busy as mostly all-inclusive resorts. |

There is a better place to go called Telume, which is next to Playa Del Carmen. All the european people go there and it's real nice.
You can always go into town for the night life. Spring Break week will be higher priced. |
