I would say Cabo - Playa del Carmen is a bit more laid back. Both have nice resorts, great beaches, lots of activities and nightlife for 20 year olds. You will not be disappointed with either. |

If you want alot of night life and nice resort areas then I would recommend Acapulco... Cabo San Lucas is really romantic but its a more quiet area and Playa Del Carmen, is near Cancun but that's like going to any local beach since its so Americanized....( and yes i can say that since i´m american myself from Chicago)
If you want to really enjoy a nice Honeymoon, with real mexican hospitality and Nice resorts and loads of nightlife, i would stick with Acapulco. Its where all the High society people go to enjoy vacation in mexico.........
Here´s a nice link..

I love both but for what you are looking for Playa del Carmen is probably best. Cabo has rocky beaches whereas Playa has soft sand and warmer waters. Playa also has more excursions and activites (5th Street is kinda cool) and is only approx. 30 minutes from Cancun.
Most resorts offer most if not all of these excursion http://www.cancunalltours.com/tours_main_page_from_playa_del_carmen_and_mayan_riviera.htm
I highly recommend the Xel-Ha, Xcaret and the Bar Leaping excursions. |

I don't think you can go wrong with either place, been to both. Although Carmen has the nice sand and water, I still prefer Cabos anytime. There's something about the whole scenery, desert on one side and ocean on the other with a natural rock formation to view at (El Arco) everytime you drive down to San Lucas. One major reason I love Cabos too is because of Playa Medano, where you have the restaurants at the beach (try Mango Deck), happy hour all day and you can sink your feet in the sand while you chill in the shade, then 15 feet away is the water so you can go get your swim on; you woulkdn't find that in the Carribean side. Then there's Lover's beach, the one and only beach that has two different bodies of water on each side, Pacific Ocean and The Sea of Cortez. Cabos has a corridor from San Jose down to San Lucas, plenty of nice resorts. Last time we stayed at the Westin Regina (now called the Westin Resort & Spa I believe); incredible architecture. Cabos also has a nice small beach town feel but with all the ammenities; it's not too Americanized like some of these other places, but enough for you to be comfortable and yet feel you're in another country. As for the nightlife is Cabos, it's kinda limited, but there should be enough to keep you entertained. Plenty of activities, deep sea fishing, snorkeling, parasailing, ATVs, plenty of golf and plenty of boat tours to El Arco in the evenings. One in particular is called The Jungle Cruise. Where you take a party boat in the evening (about $30-$35 per person) for about 2 to 2-1/2 hours to go see El Arco and then see the sunset, sun sinking into the ocean. Meanwhile, open bar the whole time, beer and mix drinks galore. Towards the end, it starts getting a little crunk, people taking body shots and so forth. As the recent married couple that you will be, I'm sure you guys will have fun.
Because you want a combination of the nice resorts, beaches, activities and nightlife... then Cabos is the way to go, I strongly recommend it. With Cabos, you have the option of having the resort feel and at the same time you can go out and about safely and plenty to do as well. Lately Riviera Maya has been getting popular due to many people wanting to enjoy the Mexican Carribean without all the hassle of Cancun...
Congratulations and good luck... |

Playa del Carmen is located in the caribbean, therefore you can expect turquoise blue and calm waters (absolutely the best color of the sea I have seen in my life), you have archaeological spots from the maya culture nearby, the weather is very humid (subtropical) with deep blue skies , however it is full with tourists from all over the world , with a wide array of nightlife options so it depends what you're looking for in your honey moon, as for Cabo San Lucas it is a much more relaxed and tranquil place, with rough waters from the pacific , tourism is practically american and canadian and nightlife is much more relaxed than Playa del Carmen's. Cabo San Lucas can be cheaper than Playa del Carmen. |
