Don't waste your time with Moon Palace!!! For starters it's NOT even in CancĂșn. It's basically in the Riviera Maya. It's far from all the shopping, restaurants, nightclubs/bars. If you want to do anything out of the resort you have to take a bus into CancĂșn. The ocean at the Moon Palace is not pretty at all. It's not that gorgeous turquoise, blue like you see in the hotel zone of CancĂșn. The beach is bland and boring! You'll be watching tractors clean up sea weed while on the beach. It's basically like a super jazzed up Holiday Inn or Motel 6 in my opinion. The Moon Palace is garbage... it's just a boring resort. Stay at the Crown Paradise where you will be by all the action and the shopping, nightlife, and restaurants. At the Crown you will have a beautiful white, powdery sand beach and gorgeous turquoise, blue water. You'll be in the hotel zone of CancĂșn where all the action is. Good luck in whatever you choose!!!

TripAdvisor is a great site. I use it all the time. It contains a good collection of traveler reviews and tips. Moon Palace has higher ratings but read all the comments for both. You'll find info on things you specifically care about.

I have stayed at the Moon Palace and I would rate it an "A." It's all-inclusive. The food is good and they don't skimp. One night we had stone crab claws. They have premium drinks (Chivas Regal scotch, etc.). The staff was very courteous. I had a back problem, so we had to call for a ride every time we went for a meal. Our room was as far from the dining room as you could get. I speak some Spanish and enjoyed talking to the driver. I would tip him $2.00 and he would say, "God bless you, sir."

There is plenty of "action" in downtown, but the attitudes are somewhat different. My nephews went downtown at about 1:00 a.m. in the morning to visit a nightclub. The cover charge was $20.00 (U.S.) and they asked if they could take a look before they paid. The owner told them they had to pay first. He said, "You Gringoes don't like us and we don't like you." I wish I had been there. I would have told him off in language he would have understood.

I don't know where the Crown Paradise is, but cab fares are cheap (but make sure you know what that far is before you hop aboard). Just make sure you have a return trip assured. My nephews had rented a jeep so they had no concern about that.

You might be better off staying at a downtown hotel. They're probably less expensive than the resorts and they're in the middle of the shopping and nightlife.

When you're in Mexico, be careful. It's not a good idea for two women to be walking around late at night in downtown Cancun, or anywhere else. Find some other people who want to do what you want to do and travel in a group at night. I think the resorts offer trips into downtown during the day, so you're probably okay there, but it is different at night. If you carry a purse, make sure it's empty. Keep a wallet in your pocket with your money.

You don't need to be afraid, but do be careful.

As for the Moon Palace, it's the best place I have ever stayed -- except that the room has a large Jacuzzi that takes up a lot of space. I spent an hour in the thing, on hot, and it didn't cure my aching back. But the people were wonderful. I think they have music in the lounge at night, but you can check that out.

Have fun!

The Moon palace is a much better resort, but a little remote. cab fares to the nightlife will probably be about a half hour and $20 - $40 depending on the cab driver. The Crown paradise is close to everything, but the resort is not quite as nice.
