Which is safer - Cancun, Punta Cana or Puerto Vallarta?

I am trying to decide between Mexico and Dominican for a vacation for my sister and I. I don't know which hotspot is the safest. Any advice? Thanks!

They're about equally very safe. No resort wants tourists going back home telling their friends and family how they got ripped off.
If you're reasonably alert, you'll be like 98 percent of the people who return home and report on having a great time.
But don't make simple mistakes like putting a camera or a handbag over the back of a chair in a restaurant--it might not be there when it's time to go. Keep the handbag or camera in your lap or on the floor with your foot through the strap.
Tourist areas attract scam artists and pickpockets, so something like that is more likely than someone pulling a gun on you and asking for money. Most crimes are crimes of opportunity where they see something of value and nobody is watching it.
Don't get drunk and wander around empty streets.
Don't flash a lot of money, you can always get more at the ATM. A money belt is a good idea--you can keep your passport and credit cards underneath your clothes--then go into the restroom if you need to pull one out.

Vallarta Baby!!!

Yay Linda!
I've been to all 3 recently....all very beautiful. If you're going sometime soon, Cancun or Punta Cana probably won't be a good idea since the storm is around the Carribean right now. Cancun & Punta Cana are better to visit during winter months. Puerto Vallarta is across the other side of Mexico by the Sea of Cortez...although they don't have clear carribean water...it is still a beautiful place with so much to do and beautiful mountains close to the beach.

Hope this info helps!

CANCUN is extremely SAFE!!! PUERTO VALLARTA is also very safe. I have traveled all over Mexico and have NEVER had a problem. I always rent a car, drive with NO PROBLEMS. There is probably more danger here in the U.S. than in Mexico. Don't believe all the hype on tv, you will not get kidnaped, you will not get your jewelry ripped off. Just like here at home...if you go to the ghettos, you might get shot (excuse my language). But for the most part...tourist spots in Mexico are quite safe. YOU PROBABLY HAVE A BIGGER CHANCE OF GETTING A MOSQUITO BITE, FOOD POISING (IF YOU DON'T WASH YOUR HANDS) than getting robbed or kidnapped.

Emm
They are all safe! I've gone to Punta Cana because my great grandmother lives near there and it is so awesome!! I have also gone to Cancun and Puerto Vallarta and they are equally safe so yeah Cancun and Puerto Vallarta are pretty similar like the activities they have to do there (which are extremely fun!) and in Punta Cana you can do so much there also! yeah good luck and have fun!!
