Well, Acapulco is not so full of activities as other beaches, but you can try things like shotover jet, a really fun trip over a wild river, maybe a day-trip to near small beach towns like Playa Ventura (beautiful and secluded! a real paradise), there's not much snorkeling as the ocean there is very deep, 3 meters minimum and that's being close to the beach, I mean, you can go snorkeling but you wont see much.
And about the 'how dangerous Mexico is...' thing, take the opinion form people who actually has been here recently, not from people that like news websites a little too much. You hear ALL sort of things about everything on the news or internet, but not all of it is true. I live and have always lived in Mexico city, never been even mugged or anything, I don't deal with drug cartels, or mafias or things like that, I take care of myself as I think any adult can do, and that's all you need while being anywhere in the world. |

Mikey is retired in Acapulco.
The fort de san Diego is worth the hour it takes to go thru it. Kinda gives the history of Acapulco. Really ain't Mikey;s thing but I tough it was pretty informative.
Not much in the way of things to do. CiCi's water park has some good rides and you can swim with the dolphins. Its OK.
Don't bother with Puerto Marquis to the south. Small and dirty. Calleta to the north ditto. Waste of a beach bums time - real small.
Pie de la Cuesta to the north is where it's at ! Deserted beach with some 15 and 20 foot waves. No body is there - completely deserted. Do not go out and swim in those wave - they will kill you. Great laid back place off the tourist map. No hassle and bussle like Acapulco.
Blue buses run the length of the Costera. No pick up and drop off points - just wave them down. Ice is free at OXXO if you buy your beer there - just help yourself to the beer display cooler at the front of the store.
Centro Mercado is a cool place to visit to see how Mexicans shop.
Here is my Flicker account to see what it's like here.

Acapulco is calle "the city that never sleeps" because all the fun is at night
i am not sure what else but I bet there is a lot more and you can even ask the lady for the hotel and she will tell you too
It has been a while I haven't been there

A little friendly advice... Don't go to Mexico... With the increase in violence and killings as a result of the Mexican Drug Cartel, it is not safe in Mexico. In 2008, over 5,300 people were killed in violence, including beheading. So far this year over 200 people have been killed. The State Department has said little of attacks and killings of Americans. The violence is not just at the border, it is all over Mexico. It is not safe considering the amount of violence. And, it has been semi-confirmed the the U.S. Military made engage the Cartel in the near future... My best advice for you, is not to go... But, if you do, be extra cautious and don't go anywhere alone... |
