Depending where you will be staying if your going to Mexico.
See most of the Big cities in Mexico have a good purifing methods on their water department systems, the problem comes when the water has to run through very old pipelines and the way the water supply is store at homes and other buildings, bacteria can grow there and in some cases like water deposits even some larve can be fund in the water.
So most of us mexicans don´t drink water straight from a fawcett, we buy purify water to cook or drink, and people that do not want to buy expensive bottled water, what they do is boil the water for 30 minutes to kill all the posible germs. |

the water in mexico has bacteria in it that you may not be used to, so if you drink it and don't have a resistance to the bacteria, you may get sick. however, you may have built a resistance somehow, so you can drink it without a problem. |

maybe the water that u drink is clean.
it is cuz the water is not cleaned when it goes up the pipe so people say that it is dirty and you can possibly get sick from it. |

Really, it's anywhere far away where you are. You're body is used to the minerals and taste of the water back home. I went to the Dominican Republic and while the water tasted fine, everyone who drank it back from home got sick for a few days while their bodies were trying to get used to it. |

It depends on where you go. In many cities the Mexicans would never drink from the sink (let alone the tourists). The water in Cancun is of the same standard as the first world, and it is unlikely to make you sick. |
