Why do MANY Americans think Mexico is in South America?? |
Well, it isn't.
It's in NORTH America.
It peeves me SO BAD when I click on a random site and Mexico is under "Central and South America , or the worst of all, every time I play Risk (the board game), and Mexico's territory is under "Central America" ...... AHHHRGGGHHH!

IGNORANCE, they can not grasp the idea that a country with a different culture is in the same continent. They can think of Canada because it is north of the USA, and there is no way of getting around that. |

I don't know a single person who thinks that, everyone I know thinks Mexico is part of North America. However you seem to have some issues with it, you need to lighten up. Most people are geographically challenged, so you are wasting your time. |

Your answer's simple, like it or not. Mexico is south-of-the-border, and that's all we care about it. I've never really thought of it as a part of Central America, but, I could guess that due to the similarity of the native population vis-a-vis the European population of the United States which is still the majority (for now anyway), we have a tendency to match Mexico and Central America. Some match it with South America, which, geographical outlines defies that for me, but, I really don't care. It's "south-of-THE-border" and that's all I care. |
