Hello.
I'm mexican, answering from México. And, actually, I don't need to go work to USA; but I can tell you some facts:
México's economy is very different to USA economy, here we have a huge lack of money and too many people low educated. It means, the quality of education is bad, the most of the mexicans are low quality workers (less brain and more muscle, that is the way it is). Therefore, there is a big offer of working hands (notice: no working brains, most of them are not educated and with NO acces to internet), and, as any other product, the price is low, very low. The demand for work is bigger than the offer (a reason to migrate to USA, Canada or Europe).
The pay in México is not for hours, it is per day parment (8 hours a day), the LEGAL minimum income is about $60 pesos a day (it means US$5.8 dolars per day, $0.73 CENTS of dollar per hour). Let it write it clear: in México de LEGAL miminum pay is:
US$ 0.73 per hour.
Okay, in the better areas (central and northern states) the ACTUAL pay is twice that:
US$1.45 dolars per hour.
Wich, however, is to low in comparission to what they can get in USA, even ilegally. |

Simply, because there are more Mexicans than there are jobs. If you offer gardener a job at six dollars a day, he'll take it because he knows that if he doesn't, there are plenty behind him in line that will. |

First you have to understand thier economy is far different than ours ( USA ). They have had corruption in thier way of life for mant decades. Still very promenent today. Its almost an accepted way of life. A dog eat dog mentality.
The govt. is more worried about themselves as an individual and what " I " can gain / profit than actually being unified for the overall society. The # 1 economic industry is drugs. With that comes accepting bribes or being killed. Its a profitable job as a politician if you can get it.
So with that being said they just dont run the economy as other countries - unified / as a whole nation - one for all , all for one - team effort.
American and other govt's see the benifits of a growing economy. Growth as in job and buisness plans so the peso becomes stronger on the world market. Promoting natural resources to the world. Building schools and educating thier children to bring in world buisness. Building roads to let commerce flow freely throughout the country. All these things build the economy and put your country on the world stage as a great place to build and move companies , invest in. The Mexican Gov't simply cares about how much can " I " get for me and MY family.
Jobs are scarce. Most are from foriegn companies looking for the cheap labor. But you have to give a kickback to some Mexican politician somewhere to bring your company there. Most world Companies wont play that game. Other jobs are just family owned stores selling a good or a resturant. They are family run and family owned. If they need help it's going to be famiky that they employ. Again dog eat dog mentality.
There are some buisness's that are just there to laundry money and not really to show a profit in ther so called " buisness" its just a front. So if I'm laundering money then employees are not really "needed" and are treated as such and they know it. So they accept it because its all they got. If they ask for a raise , well there are 50 other people to fill the position. So dont ask for a raise or make waves. I know some computer engineers that cant find work and wait tables, have for years and consider there schooling a waste of time. Its just a visicious / downward spiral effect when the Gov't dosent "grow" the economy.
Now word gets out that America is not that way and there is work and $$$ to be made here. So that's the influx of Mexicans comming here. 1 person just sending back $$ can actually support the whole family of 5 alone with no other source comming in. They see the light when they get here and call a cousin and so ,on and so on. Mexican Gov't could care less as they need to watch there backs so the drug cartels dont kill them and they need to collect thier payoffs.
Mexicans work cheap as there are little options for jobs - LITTLE. The education system failed them so they have no education or important " learned skill " to seek decent employment - but thats not there either, do to the " world " staying away. Corruption has really crippled the country and is so out of control , I prsonally dont see it changing asy time soon. |

I use to work for huge internationally well known company that had a plant in Mexico. I believe top wages were around $48.00 USD for the week.....
That's why big companies go there.....low wages. |

Because they're used to the WAAAAYYY lower wages in Mexico. And often they will live 2 families to a house pooling their $, so they can live on less. |
