Why is Tijuana, Mexico such an awful place?

People there are out to cheat you. Police set you up to take your money. Poverty is rampant.

It seems like it's always been that way. Many Mexican border towns seem to be like that. It's too bad as these towns are what often give most Americans a bad impression and they think all of Mexico is that way. We've traveled throughout Mexico over 20 times through the years and always avoid these towns because they seem to attract the low life from both sides of the border! Many of the interior towns are charming and the people are wonderful.

Ever been to Las Vegas?

it's the border...........tons of people go there before taking the last trip making it inside the USA.........All these people have tons of money expecting to pay at least $2000 dollars to get someone to pass them through..........sometimes even more!!

Americans go there for medicine they can obtain without prescription, drugs, sex, fun, etc...... American are looked as people with lots of money.

If criminals know that wether you are a person trying to make it accross or american, both have money...........obviously they won't care much about anything else but getting that money into their hands.........is why is so dangerous but yet soo much fun!!!!

?
It's Mexico's Detroit and Cleveland

Because it is America's toilet. We are the ones who buy drugs from the pushers and the sex from the prostitutes. If we didn't TJ would be a very different place. Also the government doesn't care about the people there. The people live on the sides of hills under companies like Toshiba and Hitachi who drain their chemical byproducts down the sides of these hills every time it rains into the streets where the poor live, contaminating drinking water and soil. The average salary in TJ is $80 a month for a family of 4. People there are desperate.
