Why is the U.S. making a huge deal of mexico drug trafficking just now?

this has been going of for a long time.. its not news!! discouraging others to travel there is ridiculous.. stay in the tourist area and that's it!! and that does for any third world country. the bad part is at the border. i have been there 2x its gorgeous!! would go back again!!
Additional Details
in most third world countries you can buy a police officer,, its done frequently in dominican republic cause the pay is so low and they let you go sweet and easy.

I live in Mexico, but also have American satellite and it amazes me how much the coverage is flat out wrong. Yes, there are more killings, but that is because the government is actually fighting the cartels now. It is also happening in the border towns, not all of Mexico. If you are caught in the middle of drug violence, there is a 99.9% chance you were not innocent to begin with. The drug cartels are businesses, and they do not do any act randomly. Why is the media trying to make such a big deal? One, the US is in a mess and to make everyone feel better about themselves, they hype this up to make Mexico look worse off than the US. Also, where do the vast majority of US citizens vacation when they go out of the country??....Mexico. OK, the US needs an economy boost, so what better way then to bad mouth Mexico, which already has stigmas attached, and keep that money otherwise spent in US borders.

Perhaps they are under cutting the price the CIA want to charge.

The government is smarter than we get them credit for. Unlike the public, they learn from their mistakes. Vietnam, for instance, shown that they can't have a war over just economic gain unless there was a major incident. We then had 9/11 which was debatedly an inside job. Eventually, the ignorant/worthless American public figured out that Iraq and Afghanistan were different countries so to attack Iraq, they had to act as if it was a humanitarian effort after it was unveiled that they couldn't prove that Iraq actually did have WOMD. The public was outraged and still should be. The people started to realize that a humanitarian effort worth fighting is one closer to home. Mexico comes into play because they have something that is valuable to the elites that run our country: All of the labour in the world. Th easiest thing that they can do is bring up the fact that Mexico runs off of the black market. Oh, the lies that they have told. They were stating that all of the Northern California pot farms are being operated by the drug cartels. I am in Northern California. I have known plenty of pot farmers. I would never be convinced that any of them are working for the cartels. They are saying that methamphetamine is pretty much all smuggled in from Mexico. Then why do people seem to think that meth labs are blowing up in their neighbourhoods all over the country? A Mexican stabbing another Mexican used to be gang violence. Now it is cartel violence?

People, you are being fed more and more lies and now its regarding Mexico. Don't buy it. Please, don't. The war on drugs is b.s. anyways. Research the war on drugs...Watch some videos... "The Last White Hope" for one. Remember: The Media has lied to you before and does every single day of your life regarding every incident. WHat makes you think that this will be different?

An American That Has Lost Faith In His People

bc they are slaughtering more people than they used to. 1000 in january alone. and they are starting to push their way into the US. they are also buying more guns from american gangs bc we have less strict gun laws (go figure).

Maybe they just realized how bad their intel is in Mexico, it's bad news to share a border with a place that is quickly becoming the old wild west and it is so easy to sneak people and drugs in next are weapons of mass destruction. It's about national security.

Mexico is collapsing under its own weight and it is now more unstable because they are really killing children under 10 as well as innocent Mexicans. Tourists are not immune.

Plus there is a possible spill over into the US. Of course this did not happen over night. It took years for this problem to grow until it reached the break point.

Better late than never? Mexico has a terrible stigma about it too. I'm sure there are parts of it that are breathtakingly beautiful and ideal vacation spots, but all I ever hear about is the poverty, drug trafficking, and insanely corrupt police force. I had no idea that it was common knowledge that when pulled over by a Mexican police officer, you're expected to make him an offer, which he pockets. I was floored when I heard that.
