I am a U.S. citizen living and working in Mexico City and would like to bring my Mexican girlfriend to the U.S. for a short vacation. We are applying for her visa and I have some questions.
In February my boyfriend and I and some friends are planning on going to Mexico (or somewhere hot...). What's a good resort/place to go that's fair in price and a lot of fun?...

Will I be turned away at the Mexican border without my visa?
I am going on a 10-month long exchange to Mexico and I need a student visa to study there. The problem is that I need to apply for the visa in person at one of the consulates and the closest one is in Vancouver, British Columbia, incredibly far away from my home in Saskatchewan. I was told that I might be able to get into Mexico as a tourist and then pay a fee to have my tourist status changed to student, but this sounds very risky to me (I also don't know how long this process takes or what the fee is, but I am not allowed to start classes without my student visa). I am worried that I will be turned away at the border, but there is simply no way that I can get to a consulate here in Canada before I leave. What should I do?
The organization sponsoring your exchange program should be dealing with your visa problems...it is part of their responsilility...talk to them about it. You can enter Mexico on a tourist visa, but then you must get the student visa...talk to the agency sending you on the exchange program...to see if they have specific info to help you. If they do NOT, I would consider them to be a very shaky organization. If they cannot help you take care of this, and you want to study in Mexico...you will simply have to make the trip to the consulate. You could try calling the consulate to ask about getting your student visa after entering Mexico, but consulates are very hard to get through to. Be sure to have all required documentation with you.REALLY...the exchange program should have the straight answers for you.

Call the consulate and talk to them. there might be a way to fax documents back and forth so that they can mail you a student visa in time.

Any travel agency worth its salt will process your passport and visa for Mexico - Ask for a student visa thru them or by mail to any mexican Consulate - Send acceptance letters from the University as well as addresses where you will be staying along with your request for visa - Your contact in Mexico, name address - Easier to do before you leave -
