Will I pass for Mexican?

In August I want a break. I'm considering Chile, Venezuela or Mexico. I went to Honduras and stood out because I'm tall and curvy. The women in Honduras are curvy too but very petite slender frames. I know Mexicans can be tall and meatier but will they still think I'm foreign with my face?

@Danette It's usually more convenient to look like the locals. At times you may not be treated well at upscale areas but overall when a person looks less foreign or tourist like travelling is less of a headache.

I hope you were only criticizing me for wanting to pass as Mexican since I'm not but that doesn't mean I don't share their European and/or native-American background.

Yep you look pretty much like a person from northen Mexico a lot, like from Chihuahua or Sonora maybe Sinaloa, if you are tall you can say that you come from those parts.

If you go South or in Mexico city you will look different since people in the south and center of Mexico are smaller and darker than you....

So if you want to look and blend among the locals with out being notice I´ll suggest you Cabo, Rocky Point, Mazatlan or maybe Puerto Vallarta, if you go to Acapulco or Cancun you will not seem alike the local girls.

Hi there, as someone said already, we like foreingners so don't worry! and yes, you look like some kind of Mexican, we can all be very different.

I'm 1.80 m tall with high heels and usually I'm the tallest, but I don't mind except for shoe shopping 91/2 to 10 :o) I have blond blue eye friends, and red curly haired, thin and fat, short and tall, dark and light... we are all Mexicans.

Angelita
Yes, you can pass for Mexican. There are a lot of women in Mexico with your features and there are a lot of women with features different than yours as well it will probably depend on the part of Mexico that you go to. Contrary to popular belief that Mexicans all look the same in Mexico, there are a variety of "looks" there.

Don Colibri
Ah, relax Tipi, you'll do just fine! You look close enough, and you really don't have to speak fluent Spanish just make an effort. As you really want to blend in, I'm sure you are NOT the rude, arrogant type of "gringo," that along with the bright red face, trying to beat down all the sellers to save 10 cents and the horrible Burmudas that is what really gets the negative attention!

Anyway the way you look and if you are polite and mannered, you will be treated really well, especially when people realize you are not local! Mexicans actually love foreigners and treat them exceptionally well, its just the rude ignorant drunken "gringos" which they can't stand!

There are mexicans of every color, height and shape, you can find from indian to blondes, Mexico is very diverse.

Missi ☆!
It's all in the accent, there is a diverse group of ppl that live in Mexico, so it varies...

Have fun on your trip! =)

No, I think you could easily pass for Mexican, but do you speak Spanish fluently without an accent? This is usually the give away.

Rodimus prime
you should take a look at this video..
it's a platilina mosh video, a famous 90's band
you remind me a little bit the model who appears in this video...
and YES you can blend in as if you were mexican...

I agree with the person who said you look like an Asian mix. I'm thinking Filipina.

However, as the others said, you will fit in until you speak.

Looking at your pictures I'd say you would blend in easier in Chile. I just came back from Mexico after being there for a week and the majority of the people where I was at, Petatlan Guerrero, were short and dark skinned. I lived in Chile for two years and the people there are taller and have a lighter complexion. I think the women in both countries are curvy. It just depends on your accent when speaking spanish. In Mexico people would see me and think I was from the US but then when I spoke they'd be confused.

Woa! 1st of all, peacetonight said that the majority of mexicans claim to be white!!!! Come'on! "(even though the majority claim to be white, they are not considered white by our uptight standards in the U.S.)" We are a mix of cultures, we don't claim to be anything but mexicans, I have a lot of different cultures on my blood, otomi, french and spanish mostly, that's what makes me MEXICAN!

Now, talking about that mix, you will be fine, I'm tall and curvy, bigger than most women here in Mexico and I stand out, but not in a bad way, we have tall, short, dark skin, white skin, fat, thin, small and large, there's no standard here, so you'll fit in, now about the accent, people will definetely know you're not from here if you have an accent, which is a good thing because beleive me, in Mexico we LOVE tourists!

Dannette W
You look hispanic, but it would be difficult to know what others will think. To me, you look Mexican, but you need more sun!

The dialect of Spanish that you speak will give you away as a foreigner.

Why are you trying so hard to be something that you're not?

@Tipi: That's a good reason for trying to blend in. I wasn't trying to be diapproving, I was just wondering. Thought maybe you were a reporter or doing some type of job that was "incognito". No offence.

fastdrivingirl
you look more of an asian mix than mexican.....

DJJamFlava
You look part Mexican to me, as a half and half (half white/half Mexicana) myself. If you don't mind me asking, what is your racial background? There is a higher black population in the Honduras, that I know. Mexicans are short as well, but bigger-boned, tend to be of a lighter complexion. Of course, this varies. Most Mexicans are of mixed blood(even though the majority claim to be white, they are not considered white by our uptight standards in the U.S.) ,have dark, narrower eyes than Europeans, flatter, rounder faces.
