Make it easy (and cheap) on yourself - rent a Mexico phone from Mexitel Cellular. They work EVERYWHERE in Mexico and cost only $1 per phone call to call the US and/or Canada

My Verizon works fine. I purchased an international package for $4 a month to reduce the charge of the calls, but I am not sure about at&t. I'd call AT&T & ask. Everytime we go to Mexico and I turn on my cell for the first time of the trip, I get a text with a number to call in Mexico with any issues.

At&t has very good international coverage and works in a lot of countries. I have at&t/cingular service and never had an issue. If you have a gsm phone you shouldn't have any problem. Your phone will automatically roam to the local service providers network. If you have a gsm phone and it doesn't work try manually switching providers. That happened to me once, I wasn't able to make or receive call and it was because the provider my phone roamed to had bad service. as soon as I manually switched it to another provider it worked. Check cingular.com for roaming rates.

ok here is the deal with AT&T your phone will work just fine . call your local att and tell them you are going to mexico, rate is .50 per minute I was there 2 weeks ago, never had any problems at all. your phone will say movistar which is a local provider. just remember when you call home you have to dial the o11 first. have fun

Hola. Our cell towers are pretty good here, so you can get service pretty much anywhere in the area. BUT you have to arrange with your cell provider before you leave to have the phone set to access the cellular here. It can be expensive doing this.

Also, keep in mind the dialing out is different once you are down here. And you need to understand basic spanish as the operator recordings tell you what you are doing wrong in spanish!

nope, most likely it wont work .. even if it does, it will be on International roaming, which will be very expensive.. you can consider having a world sim card, which keeps you connected in 200+ Countries and at fixed call rates .. check the link below:

This is a two part answer:

1 - It is unlikely that your cell phone carrier (at&t or cingular or whatever) will be in business in Cabo, so if you do get service it will likely be with a local company.

2 - It depends on your acutal cell phone. Cell phones use different protocols/frequencies to send and receive signal. If your phone is GSM it will probably be OK (my razr worked in Ecuador) but if it is another standard then you will have to check what is available in Cabo.

Call your cell phone company, even if you do get reception it may be ridiculously expensive (cost me like $2 for a text message from Ecuador).

no you will be able to see what time it is and all that but if you try to call if it lets you it will be a spanish person talking
