With no passport in the making would a surprise trip to mexico (by air) be out of the question?

I want to take my partner on a surprise B-day trip to cancun but neither of us have a passport nor have we applied for one. Is there any hope? I was planning on traveling July 9-14, 2007. Is it hopeless?

They've suspended the passport requirement for flights in from Mexico and Canada, but you DO still have to show that you've applied.

Go to the website below, print out the forms, get you documents together, and apply tomorrow at the local post office. Ask how many days it will take for your applicatin to show up in the system. then you can follow the directions given for the "flexibility" program. you can read about this on the same website. if you apply for your passports and follow the directions for the flexibility program, you will be able to travel without passports...IF ...your applications will be in the system soon enough. Good luck. Oh, if the passports will not be in the system soon enough, you could go to Puerto Rico...no passport needed...or Hawaii...don't give up on a nice surprise b'day trip!

no its not hopeless im going to jalisco mexico on july 8 and im flying there and i dont have a passport all u have to do is fly from tijuana get someone to drop you off in the tijuana airport and they dont require a passport untill January 1 2008 all u should bring is ur birth certificate and an id or anything with ur pic and name they might not even ask for it

I think it may be hopeless. It takes AT LEAST two weeks for the application to show up on the system. With out this proof, you will not be able to travel to Mexico. Even if you expedite the process it still may not be in the system before your desired traveling date. Maybe you should go on a coastal trip in the US, or go to Puerto Rico. No passport needed for that. Have a great time.

You have about 2 weeks. Both of you need to have birth certificates with a raised seal and photos taken for a passport. It won't be a surprise, since both of you have to appear in person to apply for a passport. Even if you have proof that you applied, Mexican Immigration will give you a hard time if you don't have a passport in hand. I know that from experience. You may want to make other plans, get your passports in the works, and plan this for next year.

NO. I am planning on going about the same time. The requirement has been lifted as long as you have proof you have APPLIED for one. So do that TODAY!!! Plus, it can't be a true surprise, as your partner has to apply in person for their own. I know, as I tried to take all of my husband's info in and was told he had to be their to sign in front of the postal clerk. Good luck! May see you there and never know it! :)

Definitely, You need a passport or proof of application. Why not try Puerto Rico, or St. Thomas. You don't need a passport for any US territory/ US virgin Island.

Unless you are sneaking across the boarder like they do, don't chance it. Mexico is much more strict than the good old USA when it comes to entering Mexico without a visa. They will put you in jail, no questions asked. You may still have time to get a Visa. At least you should try.
