VETTECH82

Would like some info about trip to Mexico.?

I am going to Sandos Caracol in Playa Del Carmen. Would it be advised to take disposable cameras instead of expensive digital? How dangerous is the drinking water and can you avoid it because the ice must be made from the drinking water.

I am staying on a resort with a safe in the room but I am worried about theft. Any suggestions on hiding money, electronics, etc...

Cameras, are very popular with the hotel employees. I would never again leave my camera in the room after losing one, in a high end hotel, even! I have never left money in my room, but this can make it rough when you wish to swim, etc.
I have read that even the safes aren't safe.
And the hotel management seem reluctant to help. Many hotels have video camera surveillance but I think that they use it only to force a share of the spoils from the actual thief. good luck.
Most hotels do use filteed water to make their ice. It is said that the ice with the hole (like a donut) is safe.

Take your digital camera and use your common sense. I live here and I know where is and isnt a good area of town. Instincts.
Trust me your fine. Playa del Carmen is safe.
Never carry your passport on you when just sightseeing / beach bummin. Leave it at the safe in your room.
Water at the major hotels is usually filtered by the hotel itself - your fine.

We went to the Barcelo Maya Beach resort last September and went to the Excellence Playa Mujeres a few months ago and are going back to the RIU Playacar next week. I have always taken my digital camera and never had any problems. We have always stayed at the resorts, where all the water is sterilized so there are no worries. They usually have bottled water in the rooms for brushing your teeth and stuff. Most places will have it posted not to drink the water, but I would imagine most restaurants are using sterilized water (even in their ice cubes). We have never had a problem, but like I said we have always stayed at the resort. The main problem we ever had was people swarming you when you leave the airport. Make sure that you have your transportation scheduled ahead of time and just ignore everyone in the airport lobby. Main thing is enjoy your trip!

I've never been hit by a pickpocket in Mexico, but I know they exist. That's why every time I go I wear a money belt under my clothes to keep my passport, Tourist Card, credit cards and 90 percent of my money. Then I know that if someone gets my wallet, I've only lost 10 percent of my money. click the link below to see some options.

It's not the water, it's the locals. They're all mental. Steer well clear my friend, well clear.
