I really loved the Barcelo Maya Resort. It is huge with a loooong beach. It is a little further south than many of the resorts, but it was really nice. Iberostar Paraiso beach was nice too. There are some other ones I have stayed at, but why don't you look at funjet.com and see the deals from your city, then do the research on the traveler reviews at tripadvisor.com. I love that website. They have candid traveler photos, so you can see what the resort is really like. They also list resorts by popularity index which is nice.
As for what there is to do there, all of the resorts offer pretty much the same things. Beach, show, food, drinks, pool activities... and there is always an excursion rep in the lobby to book trips to other attractions for you. |

Hotels in the Riviera Maya?
Try this two links, one is a mexican govern related site, made specially for promote Mexico and all their vacational places; the second one is one of the best private developments places in Mexico's beaches (this one includes info about activities).
Personally, I've been in "Mayan Palace" Acapulco, its an impressive development, and my visit was about 5 years ago, so today might be even better.

Depends on a lot of detail. How much do you want to spend? Is this for adults only or a family. Many great properties...lots of tours and shopping the Maya area. Secrets Capri is great for Adults as well as the Aventura Spa Palace...If you are looking for something a bit less expensive the Blue Bay Getaway is a good choice. For Families any of the Iberostar properties for a higher class resort, or the Melia Tropical or Riu Yucatan.
