Would you go to Mexico now after the latest murder in Acapulco?

I've been to all parts of Mexico, I feel safe do you?

I would think it depends on what part of Mexico your talking about. I was recently on the west cost along the peninsula and I felt total safe, even at night.

I checked the state department web site and they don't currently have any travel advisories for Mexico.

Every big city has murders - including Los Angeles, NY, Chicago, Detroit, San Diego, Honolulu, Miami, Poughkeepsie ... where ever. Why does it make a difference that it's Acapulco?

Of course, I'd go.

me too

I used to take people into Mexico for a living I would go any time . People get killed in the States everyday . The thing about Mexico is you have to know what your doing and where your doing it. I miss Mexico even if it comes with the violence it's just part of the show.

the guy who was murdered was Canadian ...was it not last year a canadian couple was murder in the Mayav Riviera ( an hour a way from Cancun ) ??I stay at the same resort all the time by the way ( barcelo ) no I don't feel scared anywhere you go you have to be careful . He was talking to a Mexican girl( friends say ) when a fight started with locals at him because of that . The elderly couple atttending their daughters wedding ...welll hmmmm that's hard to say ..No one really knows details of that still . But I am cautious in any foreign country ..People on vacation tend to forget their not at home and place caution to the wind ...as the phrase goes

Absolutely. Go online and find the murder statistics in Washington, D.C., for example (substitute anyplace you want), and you'll find per capita crime in Mexico is a lot smaller number.

?
no

Being a Torontonian who has lived in Acapulco I would for sure go there; I walked a hundred times over the same spot as the young guys' body was found and felt totally safe. Toronto, and any other city of considerable size in the world, suffers murders on an almost daily basis. I have lived alone in downtown Toronto, in the suburbs near there and in Acapulco and it occured to me the other day that I felt safest in Mexico. Plus a lot of people are jumping to a lot of conclusions about this particular 'murder'; the Canadian coroner completed the autopsy here in Toronto and the findings said the boy's injuries were consistent with that of a car accident, like the Mexican police suspected. I have been drunk, leaving that club and wanting to try and walk down that highway to the main strip and thank god I was stopped by my cabbie friends who always said never to walk down; that I would be killed for sure and it was too dangerous. I think we need to open up to the possibility that something less sinister happened than the usual 'all Mexicans are killers and Mexico is a deathtrap' mentality. Oh by the way, the Ianiero killings (very obviously murdered) are completely unrelated to this incident. Does anyone compare a killing in LA to one in NY? Or one in Toronto to one in Vancouver? Would we want travel bans on our countries based on 2 completely unrelated incidents?

I wouldn't go there before! Too bad, since it's gorgeous and has amazing culture.

I would rather make them a large sheet of glass.

Sure, why not?

I am Mexican, enjoy traveling around Mexico, and trust me, if I felt it wasn't safe, I wouldn't visit certain areas.

On the same token, I am sure many people would tell me there is nothing wrong about visiting the US when I've read about all those horrors :

killings in schools, even in the Amish country
shootings in Mc D's
snipers on the loose in VA
bombers here and there
plus all those crimes we see on CNN and Fox News

None of those pieces of news have stopped me from going to the US.

Stephanie!
yeah sure...so theres a murder, that just means i wouldnt go to acapulco. i wouldnt ignore the whole country completely because of it.

think of this...there are tons of murders in the us, but we (or if not you...than me) still live here. murders are horrible, but it doesnt make the whole country a bad place.
