If you want to have a good rate, you need to do a lots of research to compare the price and book it at least 2 or 3 months ahead!

I found this squidoo lens that comparing a few sites for airfares and probably you can refer to the budget airlines sites that listed there to do your research.

However, this is only a few sites, out there still many many budget airlines site and you really need to do some hard work in order to get the best rate.

I would say timing is crucial as well, depends on what season, definitely holiday season the rate would be higher. Try travelling during low peak season can give you better offer.
