Can you see Mount Everest from Kathmandu if not are there trips to see it?Also are there glacier trips ?
I am hoping to go to Kathmandu in the summer over land from India.....v.v.v excited!! Whilst i am there i would love to catch a glimpse of Mt Everest, can you see it from Kathmandu? Also I would like to see a glacier, are there any glacier trips that you can go on....by car/coach...don't fancy trecking. Think i will spend about a week in Kathmandu and i this time also might do the bungee jump...although if i am short on time then the glacier would be top choice. Also wanna see the temples etc.
Hi
No you can not see Mt Everest from Kathmandu, but you can book a mountain flight. What is call Everest Flight with Buddha Air.
Every travel agent in Kathmandu can book that for you. They have several depatures a day.
http://www.buddhaair.com/
This is the best option for you. All seat are a window seat, the view over the Himalayas is stunning!
Prices vary depending of the season. But you have to allow an average of 140$ sometimes more.
If you have time in your hands and you are fit you can book a trek, please allow at least 19 days to do it. You first fly to Lukla and then walk all the way to Everest Base Camp. But if don t fancy trekking it is not the option...!
Or you can take a day trip by bus from Kathmandu to Dhulikhel a few miles away from Kathmandu, the view is not the best but it is okay on a clear day. This can be organised by a travel agent in town if you do not want to go indepenent. People usually spend the night there.
For temples you have a lot in Kathmandu,
- The GREAT STUPA OF BOUDHANATH
- SWAYAMBHUNATH (also known as the Monkey temple) is situated on a hill top 2Km west of Kathmandu.
- DURBAR SQUARE is a must. The cost is 200Npr, the ticket is valid for one day, but if you go to the offices they can make you a visitor pass and extent it for a month
- BUDDHA NILKANTHA (meaning Old Blue Neck) is dedicated to Vishnu.
...and many more
I will also recommend the towns of Patan and Bahktapur. Newari villages of Kirtipur and Bugmati.
Budgee Jump is done about 3 hours from Kathmandu in the Bhote Kosi river gorge , not far from the Tibet border, there is a special bridge.
Well to see the glaciers, ... you will have to trek for that, from the mountain flights you can't see them from close.
Hope this will help
