Pink Cat

Does anyone know what it is like to live in Kathmandu, Nepal? I might go for 5 months and am very nervous.?

I would go to work for an NGO, a recently developed on-line newspaper that reports on human rights and Nepal's transition to democracy.

i lived in KTM for a few months back in the late 90s. at first i'm sure it'll be a bit overwhelming, but you'll get used to everything in a while. yes, the pollution is pretty bad. the inside of my nostrils would be black everyday from biking in the streets.

there are so many temples and sights to see in the city and great day trips nearby. as a man i never had any problems there, and the people were very friendly and helpful. however, a few of the girls on the program did encounter some mild harassment. this is easily stopped my making a scene and shaming the perp.

of course, food and drink is cheap. as is pretty much every other daily necessity. buy bottled water and try to eat in cleaner places. i was not obsessive, but pretty careful and i never got sick.

don't know how else to describe, just that it's a great place. you are lucky to be going and also to be involved in such a valuable project. take care and have an amazing time!

oh, try to learn some of the basics of the language. people will really appreciate it.

It's ok, people are friendly....the only bad thing I thing of is the pollution...but anyway, it's the same all around the world now...just go for it, there's lots of foreigners there, places to go out, stuff to buy...really it's great!

I went to Nepal last year. Kathmandu is OK, they told me it was dangerous to walk in the streets but i felt very safe. Maybe because the people really try to help you if you try to ask ( almost nobody speaks English)

Good luck and do not worry you are going to love the place and most of all their culture which is very interesting.

...and there was a coup attempt there in the city within the last couple of months. Not to mention that the Rebels are free to roam the city. But other than that, its a nice place to visit and there are some great sight seeing opportunities within a few hours drive.
