Most of the gates to India have been temporarily closed for political reasons and flood, and there is no direct Train service from Nepal to India as well. So, I would suggest you to go to the TIA [Tribhuvan International Airport], which is the one and only international airport in Nepal.
Good Luck! Have a safe journey!!!

There`s no train service between India and Nepal.

There are no cross-border trains yet, between those countries. So, you might as well wait, or coax the powers that rule those countries, to build the rail-road.

Nepal has no train. So you will have to travel upto Indian border of by bus, and from thereon you can think of boarding a train.
Kathmandu to Kakarvitta - Bus
Kakarvitta to New Jalpaiguri - Bus
New Jalpaiguri to Howrah -Train

The easiest way beside taking a flight would be to ride on a bus from Kathmandu to Birganj and then take a train from Raxaul to Patna and then to Kolkata.
