best way is a ride to Sonauli and then crossing the border you get buses and micro vans going to Kathmandu. So in total the journey will take about 10 hours. And you can go back the same way.

from raxual you need to get in to Riksha to go to Birganj(nepal),its a 20min distance ,ask the Rikshawala for bus stand ,u can take take tanga too,there u will get many luxary buses for kathmandu,it is only 6hrs ride to kathmandu tickets vary from bus to bus but usually its 5oo nepali currency ie 1Nepali rupee=1.60Indianrupee

An alternative route is to take a bus ride from Gorakpur to Sunauli (3 hours). Then cross the border to Bhairahawa on the Nepalese side. Then you can travel on day or night buses from Bhairahawa to Kathmandu which takes around 8 hours.
