All the answers are great. It really depends on your budget.
If on a shoe-string, then Thamel area in Kathmundu is a
backpacker haven. Cheap and great food. Check out the hostels
before you book them. Some are just great for the price.
Outside Kathmundu, maybe it's better if you know people.
Pokara has nice hotel too.
