Moving to Nepal?!? |
Ok, to be frank I havent traveled much in the US (wish I did) but now I am considering taking a trip to Nepal and possibly moving there. I know there are thousands of articles and sites on the web, but I lioke to hear other people's opinions as well. What do you think about Nepal as a place to live for an American that does not speak Nepalese or Hindi? What was your opinion when you went? How does the society view women that are not tourists etc? Thanks so much!!! Just wanted to gather some thoughts! |

I totally agree with Badri. To live in Nepal it's not a problem for a American. Comparing to US and Nepal, Nepal is cheapest country. There are many foriegners who came to Nepal and settled down. Languages is not a big issue because you can learn it within few days. Most os Nepalese can speak at least broken English. Initially you may find difficult to arrange everything then you will find little tough to adjust with your society where you planing to stay. But after few months everything will be fine and you will be considered as local citizen. |

Thank you for considering Nepal as your destination. I don't think a language will be a problem to live in Nepal. There are many foreign people who learn Nepali in few months. The character of Nepalese people always welcome good people either as a tourist or other. However, please check the rules and regulation of government for different conditions to travel, settle, and live permanently in Nepal. You may feel uneasy due to differences in culture, religions, services in the beginning but I hope you will adopt to the situation in due course of time. |

very interesting because i want to move to nepal as well!! living in the us i wish to go some place different and more peaceful to the mind.
i think nepal is a great place to move to. i dont think there would be so much crime or any as much. however it is always smart to not show urself as an american... but then again foreigners go there quiet a lot. since Mount everest is there and its just plain beautiful there.
but if u wanna be a resident there then ud prob wanna become one of the ppl.. thats what i want to do at least...
i think its a beautiful feeling living in another country seeing different ppl and learning and becoming apart of their culture and then making it apart of urself. if i didnt live with my parents id move out to nepal asap!!
honestly i dont know how it is over there nor do i know anyone who lives there, or is from nepal at the moment, but thats y u have to do a lot of research and planning.
i think when u go from another country like the us britian Canada etc.. u will always feel very different there, and ppl will treat u nicely but they'll know that ur from another country too, u dont even have to pretend they can just tell! check out a lot of sites, ask travel agencies, go to the embassy..
and if u do plan to move there, make sure u know what job ur gonna do... r u gonna find over there or do u already know what u wanna do, plus u gotta learn the language... its a whole new change to ur life!!
but what i did heard is that nepal is dirt poor, if u think u can live in situations with too much rain flooding, and just that whole village life... then go ahead, otherwise if u feel ur
sensitive to certain things, and will get sick then nepal can be a place to visit for u... it doesnt have those facilities like in the us u gotta do everything urself. wash ur own clothes, shower with a bucket, walk in bumpy dusty roads... etcc
but to honest thats a lifestyle i would take any day then living in such a hustle bustle lifestyle with nothing but bills and so much more!...
but im sure they will be kind to u if u dont cause any harm to them or their ppl. other than that go for it!
(lived in pakistan for half a yr, and loves to travel/live in other countries)
good luck |
