Travel to Nepal (Kathmandu)?

What to pack with me? I am planning to travel this December, this is the only time of the year I can take some time off. Is there a place where to meet other single travelers, as I am planning to travel by myself? What would you recommend I see in Kathmandu (I have approx. 16 days of vacation). Thank you in advance.

Average temperature and rainfall in Kathmandu at December is around-1.9-20.7-1. It is recommended to have both light and warm clothing. In the mountain areas warm clothes are generally a must.
With half a million people, Kathmandu is Nepal's biggest and most cosmopolitan city but 16 days is more then enough for Kathmandu. you may add Nagorkot, Pokhara and Chitwan city within your timeline. trekking is not recomended in December.
Places to Visit in Kathmandu
Hanuman Dhoka (Durbar Square), Singha Durbar, Bhadrakali Temple, Narayanhity, Swayambhu Stupa, Boudhanath Stupa, Balaju Water Garden, Budhanilkantha, Pashupatinath Temple, Gokarna (Royal Game Sanctuary), Sankhu ( Newari town), Sundarijal It is a famous for its scenic beauty, Chobha (this place is famous for its gorge), Changu Narayan Temple, Akash Bhairav Temple, Kumari Ghar (Temple of Kumari), Kirtipur, Kasthamandap temple, Jaishi Dewal, Dakshinkali temple etc.
What to carry with you?
1. Office ID card, Business card, Photocopy of your Passport, Extra PP size Photograph.
2. An "in case of emergency card" that includes your blood type, allergies, and special medical conditions.
3. Additional supply of prescription medicines, an extra pair of eyeglasses
What to leave behind?
1. A copy of your Itinerary and contact number of your hotel or guide (if you take one).
Other Planning Tips
1. Put your name, address, and telephone number inside your luggage and carry-on luggage.
2. Use your Business Address, if possible, on your luggage.
3. Use Lockable Luggage
4. Plan to travel in comfortable, casual clothing to avoid attracting attention.
Staying Safe
1. Never leave your luggage, briefcase or other items unattended.
2. Watch your carry-on items closely when they go through loader.
3. Do not let others people see how much currency you are carrying.
4. Be wary of imposter porters or Street hawkers at Kathmandu and Pokhara.
5. Don't accept an offer to drink or taking food unless you know the individual. Avoid taking food from street.
6. Follow the safety rules while rafting (if you go there).
7. Don’t try anything beyond your ability. Keep yourself in limits.
At The Hotel
1. Keep silence and follow the rule.
2. Don’t take food from your room cabinet as they are expensive and will be billed to you.
3. Avoid making phone call from hotel for the same reason.

best if you find someone to travel with you and a very good travel agent.

First of all, december is the winter season in Nepal. The temperature will surely dropdown in all the places. So, i reccomend you to bring some warm clothes.

The most exciting part of Nepal is it's natural beauty, you can enjoy the natural beauty by trekking, hiking, biking, rafting. Most of the trekking routes will be stopped due to climatic factor in Nepal. However, you can go trekking in the little bit low land, one of them is Ghorepani Trek, which is normally 5 days and can be extended upto 8/9 days.

Apart from this, you can go for hiking, sight seeing around pokhara, apart from that you can do jungle activities in Chitwan which covers elephant ride, jungle walk, cultural dance etc. It can be done in 2/3 days.

Another good thing i reccommend you is the mountain flight where you can have a view of mountains of nepal.

I don't reccommend you to travel by your own coz there might be some problem if you travel alone. For instance, there was one tourist dead in Nepal few days ago. If you don't have money you go for the budget tour with any agency you like but i don't reccomend you to to go alone. However, you can find someone travelling alone.

Well, i'm suggesting you these things since i work on Travels and Tours.

wish you all the best for your trip

regards,
Tenzing

Bring lots of sweaters and winter clothing. Temperatures can drop a lot and you will be needing it.

The others would be the basic necessities as usual for personal hygiene and of course, don't forget that camera! Bring also a diary for notes and important things which you might want to write down (a small notebook will be good too).

There are many temples and shrines which are interesting to see, make worship and visit in Kathmandu. About meeting friends and all... its a great place, but be careful with trusting strangers.

Good luck!
