I suggest that you have a hotel reserved before you go-- then once you are there, they will have many suggestions for you as far as what to see. Most tourists go to Thamel in kathmandu, an areas where there are a lot of tourist hotels and also many souviner shops. It is a fascinating place in itself and many agencies which can make the arrangements for all that Nepal has to offer. I am also traveling to Nepal at the end of the month-- for work, not touring. I go 2 or 3 times a year. I do love it, but it is getting to know the people which attracts me so much. Most tourists go for the mountains and they are spectacular-- but you need to get out of the capital city for the best view, and sometimes, disappointedly, it is too hazy and you cannot see much. What to eat? If you cannot handle the hot spices (which I cannot) say so as you order in a restaurant. Otherwise, try it all! New and different foods are part of the travel experience.

It would be easier to advise if you had stated how many days you are there for. If it is short tour of3-4 days. Kathmandu offers you variety of things to do and see. but if you have 4-7 days or more you can visit to Pokhara/Lumbini/Chitwan apart from Kathmandu. If you are interested in some adventures you can opt for paragliding, bungy jumping, ultra light flight, Do not forget to go for a mountain flight. it is good experience.
For hotels- depending on your budget you can choose 5 star to budget hotels. You can get help on these things from anyone in the hotel or you can always check any of the local travel agents. If you want to have full details before you start your tour write to Shoreka at shmo143@hotmail.com She might reply you with detail and some suggestions ( If she has time- Might be she is in Kathmandu during this time) She helped me for my tour. Enjoy the tour. Nepal is very good country to experience

I sponsor a student in Kathmandu who is 19 years old and a very fine boy. He is an excellent "tour guide" and always takes very good care of me;. Knows his way around good and knows great restraunts. Be careful walking around--traffic is crazy with little narrow streets and crazy taxi drivers. My boy could spend a day or so with you helping you get your bearings and the lay of the land. Safe, clean hotels can be had for $10-12 us dollars a night.

If you're interested email me. I know you would find him helpful and very worth the few dollars you would offer him.
