What Sailaja R and Howdy said that's true.

Women do wear Saari and traditional blouse, Men used to wear Daura Surwal ( Kameej & Paijamas). Now new generation are catching western fashions.

Shailaja R
Though saree is the nationaldress for women and daura surwal is for men but now a days ,most Nepalese women wear kurtha surwal(that is long top and trouser) and men wear pant and shirt. Pant is also common in new generation ladies.

howdy
It depends on where you are. In Kathmandu, the capital, many people dress similarly to Western countries (jeans, sweaters).

In the countryside, it is more common to see women wearning long skirts. Keep in mind that most of the population work in the trekking industry in some way or another. Therefore, trekking apparel is very common. I bought a long cotton skirt at a market there which I wore in hotter weather. When it was cold I wore khaki pants with thermals underneath. Men don't often wear short pants, and women never do.

In general, dress in layers. Hope that helps!
