Mount Kailash (Kangrinpoche) situated at western part of Tibet, has been considered sacred by Buddhists and Hindus. You are able to do Mount Everest trekking from here. The view is stunning beyond descriptions.

If you are looking for a budget place there is one called Century Lodge which is in the heart of the city and it's in a place called Freak Street (Old hippie place) or they call it Kathmandu Durbar Square. It's one of the tourist spots. Thamel is a nice place to hang out too. Go ahead and try it out. Good luck travelling.

I dont think there is any cool places to hang out in Nepal. Nepal is hopelessly boring for a modern day tourist.
