Carla A

Am I being realistic with this monthly budget?

Is this realistic or should my budget be higher? Assuming that I'm planning to go to Wellington, rent a one-bedroom apartment (definitely not in a posh area but a safe neighbourhood).

Housing: 300 x week
Supermarket: 80 x week
Celphone: 30 x month (don't use the phone much)
Public Transp.: 100 x month
Other: 80 x week

Is this too much, too little? Thanx in advance!
Additional Details
First of all thanks for all your answers! Yes power, water and electricity is included in the housing...is $300 too little?
I'm from Spain and I belive I can cook quite well, here I spend around €150 a month in the supermarket (which is roughly around $370) so hopefully $80 x week will be enough.

I can survive on $40 a week for food because I know how to cook. You'll be fine with $80 if you know how to cook haha.

I think that your budget is realistic for a month. I'm assuming that your housing budget is including power/internet etc., because even for Wellington $300 is quite a bit. $300 for rent for a one bedroom place in Wellington is basically the maximum you should expect to pay for a place right in the city.

You don't own a car?

It seems reasonable to me. Although I would have a hard time spending only 80 bucks a week on food lol. But only because I can't cook worth crap.

I think 300 a week sounds like to little and 80 for food hmmm Put on another 40 on both and you'll be sweet.

Dangerous
You might need more for food and less for public transport. And you will probably have more than $80 to spare.

Cool Paul
$300 a week seems steep. are you gonna be right on cuba street? nevermind I see you added details

public transit is pretty cheap, but wellington is so compact you can pretty much walk anywhere in 15 minutes.

$80 a week on food is plenty if you go to new world or something. I could make that last 2 and a half weeks. buy eggs, tuna, pasta and fruit....that stuff goes a long way.

$30 a month for celphone? how? minutes are really expensive there? for prepaid credit it's 90 cents a minute to call anywhere in New Zealand! If you get the 2000 text plan and you might be able to pull that off.

maree
is insurance, power, water etc included in your housing???

PARADISE_WATERS
You should be able to rent a place for cheaper than $300 if you get a studio rather than a one bedroom or consider a shared house.

Food? it depends on how much you eat. But $80 does seem a lot.
