its the only really big one

travel_stories
Rainbows End in Auckland is a small version of Dreamworld in Brisbane or very small version of Disney land type park.

Auckland has a scary ghost themed venture at Kingseat which is in a rural area just south of Auckland.

There are several Maori themed Parks in Rotorua and the Tamaki Villages are in both Rotorua and Christchurch. They give a view of historic Maori life and culture in an entertaining way.

Rotorua has a farm show which is very entertaining. There is also one in the Dome Valley north of Auckland.

Queenstown has a range of adventure activities. Not exactly themed parks.

Amusement Parks in New Zealand tend to be rather small and not quite able to compare to overseas, although there are many culturally themed that are great for children.

Kelly Tarlton's Aquarium also has an interesting display about the South Pole which you can travel in small trains to see. This has speakers talking about it in different languages.

Te Papa national museum in Wellington has interactive activities.
We do have things such as climbing walls, paintball, and those types of activities - not exactly a theme park.

Yeah. The major amusement park is called Rainbow's End, which is in Auckland. Also in Auckland there is an Antarctic/Underwater world called Kelly Tarltons. In Dunedin (South Island) there is a Cadbury World Chocolate Factory which is a great place to visit if you love your choc!

As the other's have referred to, NZ has a couple of amusement parks, not exactly amazing ones on a world scale however. In NZ it is the natural features and adventure sports that give you the thrills. Honestly, I wouldn't bother with theme parks, but would be looking to go skiing, snowboarding, zorbing, luging, caving, tramping, mountainbiking, rock climbing, abseiling, sky diving, bungy jumping etc, and get far more excitement
