They are on the same island. Take the bus.
We are actually trying to be helpful. There are no scheduled or passenger ship services between these two cities. Not many vessels do the voyage as most freight goes by rail. Even on a vessel. doing the voyage, there are no empty cabins or demand for unskilled crew. These are workplaces, often hazardous and you would be getting in the way. Unless you charter a boat, it can't be done.
How about saying why you want to take this voyage? There are boat trips available but not between these two places. |

Most of them leave from Sydney, and there are a couple of cruise lines that leave from Melbourne & Auckland and include Wellington in their itinerary. |

Grant M has a good answer; you would be very lucky if you found a freighter plying between Wellington and Auckland that took you on as a passenger. Very lucky.
You could perhaps sign up as a crew member and work your way.
Try the coal, cement, gas, fuel, fishing and steel companies to see if they know of any gaps in the crewing of their vessels. See the yellow pages.
Don't get shirty just because all the answers so far have been good answers and have been correct answers.
Just accept that what you ask is almost an impossibility.

Only freight ships. Curise ships really only come and go from Auckland.
