Nope. Neither. The only poisonous spiders here are the native katipo which has a legspan of about 1 cm and a few redbacks which came in on cargo containers from Aussie. I've never seen either, and I've never heard of anybody being bitten. Wetas? I've seen weta larvae, called huhu grubs. They make good eating, especially when roasted in wood ashes and coated with dark chocolate. The giant weta is about as big as a sparrow. It's a protected animal. I've only seen them in museums. |

No, there are no tarantulas or scorpions here in NZ. Weta are quite common, in the bush & around the homes - especially under decayed wood or in dark,/shady places. |

Nope we are one lucky country! basically no dangerous or poisonous creatures. you can usually see weta if you go caving at all they like dark, moist spots |

New Zealand has neither of those pests although I'm sure some museums have them on exhibit, they are not loose through the country. Weta are quite common especially in rural and cave type areas. |

The only really pesky things we have here are the British, South African Dutch, James and a paranoid delusional called Doris. For insects (not previously mentioned) - spiders - katipo ( redback), and white tail. Never had tarantulas here - just garden variety Avondale spiders and Nursery Spiders which have been mistaken as lethal to humankind. |

Only in the zoo - not sure if they are still alaive but some illegally imported tarantula's were given to Auckland zoo a few years ago.
New Zealand does not have poisonous spiders or scorpians.Or even snakes. We are relatively pest free!
Weta's are found in the bush under old logs etc.You would need to go looking for them. |
