Aside from the main cities displayed under General - New Zealand, what other cities would be worth visiting?
i'm looking for cool out of the way places... maybe a smaller town/city that is a great place to visit but doesn't get enough publicity.
In terms of cities - one other city not listed there is Nelson. Known as the sunniest place in New Zealand, it is also the arts and craft centre of New Zealand. The surrounding area is beautiful. As regards places that don't get publicity; trust me - if it doesn't get publicity it isn't worth visiting. Places in New Zealand are exceptionally good at publicising themselves if they have something worth seeing.
If you haven't already seen it, visit the link below. It is a site that lists the 101 best places to visit in New Zealand as voted for by the New Zealand public. you can't get a better reference than that.
Enjoy your visit.
PS: personally, if you're looking for cool out of the way places, I would avoid the cities listed in the General-New Zealand section (apart from maybe Queenstown) - there are far better things to see in New Zealand than just another city.
PPS: The place referred to by the previous answerer is indeed in Australia not New Zealand.
