Auckland Graffiti and ghettos? |
Hey. New Zealand has recently got google maps street view.
Bascially it means you can look at the place from the streets and see all the houses up close and that.
I have been told that parts of Auckland are ghetto: Otara, Manuwera, Mount Roskill etc.
I looked at these and they don't even look that bad! No worse than some parts here on the Gold Coast. I have also been told that Auckland has heaps of graffiti.
It doesn't appear to on this! Does Sydney have more in your opinion?
Is Auckland not that bad afterall? I have been told it's a hole?
Very confused? I know google maps is not really an indication of poverty and crime lol but it the areas didn't look that bad? Infact I saw people (WHITE PEOPLE!) walking around in the "ghettos".
What is Auckland really like? Am I wrong in thinking it's a bad place?
Thanks in advance :) |

I didn't think Mt Roskill was that bad, Auckland is not a hole thats rather harsh. I'm 'White' and used to live in Manurewa I very much enjoyed living in that part of town and always flet safe. Some people live in these 'ghetto' areas because it is cheaper or for the reason we did- family/work but where as I went to school in Ellerslie a far nicer part of Auckland.
Maybe street view would like better down Highbury Ave!!
Or possibly Manapouri cres ofcourse : ) |

Nothing wrong with Auckland it's like any city the world oveer. It's got rich white areas, with rich white people and poor(er) areas with poor(er) people of every race.
There is no ghetto just people that like to think it is so they can blame society for their problems. |

haha it isn't really a hole. it has its good places and is dangerous ones.
i am not all that familiar with auckland but i do know that south auckland and west auckland are the scummy "ghetto" areas. the nicer places are that like ponsonby and takapuna and places in the north shore.

Ahaha a hole...
The "gangstas" of Auckland try to make it sound like it is a really bad place and that bullets are flying all the time this is just not the case.
You can lie in some of the worst areas and not get involved (e.g. shot, stabbed etc lol). Sure there are some bad parts like Otara but they are only bad if you are mixing with the wrong crowd, they will not attack you for no reason.
Auckland is generally a nice place but definitely not as nice as wellington. In Auckland there are a lot of immigrants and just generally not as nice as other parts of New Zealand, but that would just be because i am used to open spaces.
Look Auckland is fine and if you were to go on holiday or whatever you will be fine most of the things that are said about Auckland are isolated cases and hugely blown out of proportion if even true at all.
Hope this helped |

Say WHAT? Who told you Auckland was a hole?!?! Crazy. They must have been from somewhere other than Auckland. See, anyone who isn't from Auckland automatically hates Aucklanders, because they think we have something personal against them due to our choice of living in the metropolis.
The truth is, the further south (or west, e.g. Avondale) you go in Auckland the rougher it gets. That's all. |
