Rubix Cube

Auckland- What's so bad abou it?

I've only been to Auckland once. I remembred a mini Sydney like city which was very different to the rest of the country.

My question is why do so many people I meet in nz seem to hate the place?

What's wrong with it? Please don't mention traffic because Sydney has worse traffic and not too many complain about Sydney here on the Gold Coast.

What is good and bad about Auckland?

Thanks in advance people :)

Auckland is a lovely city! I may be biased as an Aucklander but I have travelled extensively and lived in several other countries so do have something to compare with. Where else can you live by so many beautiful beaches, mountains, and bush all right there. The islands in the Hauraki Gulf are great places for day trips or holidays and while we get quite a bit of rain we do have generally a sub tropical climate.

With plenty of entertainment if you choose to participate, a huge choice of outdoor activities from the usual team sports to water activities, scenically beautiful - I do not know how anyone can not think Auckland is a great place.

Some parts of New Zealand can be somewhat parochial and think their area is best. They also have the misguided idea that Auckland sucks up all the money for roads, and infrastructure. In fact Aucklander's pay millions more in taxes which are spent on other parts of New Zealand and not in Auckland. To make matters worse we are then taxed extra to have our own new roads etc built.

Some more southern NZ'ers also think Aucklander's think they are better than the rest of New Zealand .Which is a bit sad.In fact a good majority of people who live in Auckland have come from either another part of New Zealand, or another country.

So in many cases it is ignorance. I suspect they think we are all very wealthy and have it easy. In fact Wellington with all the bureaucrats has the best paid workforce. Anyone who thinks the long hours worked and long commuting times required in Auckland make life easy have clearly not experienced it.

If you want to have a look at some of the great things you can do in Auckland have a look at my website

I love it!

God . why does everyone go on about traffic??!!
Im from london...shall i continue
if this is a worst traffic disscusion london wins hands down!!
Auckland is fab,Its a city with city life but with great beaches right on your door step. Its like a beautiful London for me.
It has everything and i think u only appreciate this when you have lived somwhere else.

i have lived in auckland for 3 years and have been living in sydney for 4, auckland by far has worse traffic than sydney, auckland is very spread out and doesnt have as many motorways as sydney has. Auckland is the largest place in NZ and genereally most kiwis prefer smaller towns. Auckland is the place most immigrants move to so there is a few places where culture shock comes into it. But then again there are some awesome places in auckland.

You may have heard kiwis call auckanders JAFAs.. just another f***ing auklander, theres a bit of rivalry with the rest of the country
