What is the weather like in these places in late September - mid October?

Throw in your opinion of each city too.

At these times the weather is starting to get warmer. Nice days with clear skies. And the landscape will be a lush green with spring flowers everywhere. Both Cities at this time of the year are awesome so you can hopefully guarantee there is lots and lots to do.....
But all weather is unpredictable so check it before you come.

September, October, November are the months of spring in NZ so by late september to mid october temperatures in both auckland and wellington will be warming up.

for an idea of average high and low temperatures see
http://www.tourism.net.nz/new-zealand/about-new-zealand/weather-and-climate.html#climate

Both cities are great, but to truly experience NZ you should really visit the south island aswell!!

New Zealand weather can be unpredictable, but the days at least should be starting to warm up.It can still be cool, and would probably be cool in the evenings, so you would need a warm jumper or jacket.
It does very much depend WHERE you are in New Zealand what the weather is. We are a long narrow country with very different climates in the north to the south.

We can get a lot of rain, and late September is forecast to still be quite rainy. But October maybe drier.

For information on the seasons etc go to http://www.holidays-in-newzealand.com/new-zealand-weather.html

Each city has something different to offer. Auckland and Christchurch are gateway cities so you could arrive at one and leave from the other, with some sightseeing in each. Wellington is a nice city but it depends on how long you have and how you are travelling whether it is worth the time to go there.2 days would be enough.Queenstown is a town and has so many activities and attractions it is a must.

You can read about them all on the same website and decide what appeals most.
