hmmm i dont know about the prospect side of it but having lived in both places and being an outsider from the uk i can tell u that the girls and boys of Otago Uni In Dunedin have a fantastic time whilst learning what ever there learning!

Depends what you want to study.
Internationally Auckland is higher ranked.
If it is medical your doing (or dentistry) go to Otago. If it is student life, Otago.
Food science, perhaps Otago. Vist their websites and have a look at their staff and see what their quals. are and areas of study.

Hi, I studied music at Auckland, academically it is better and internationaly it i seen as a top university. Otago is great if you wanna go a bit mad and party up your uni years as its more of an enclosed campus and auckland is more spread out.
Depends what kind of experience you want really, dont get more wrong, you'll have a great time in the auckland uni bar shadows, and they do have kewl markets and all sorts of mad stuff. But otago is the place to go if you wanna spend the next few years continously drunk!
