Can I legally immigrate to N. Z?

Hello! I am a British citizen/passport holder. Would I be able to move to New Zealand as a Brit or do I still have to go through a long and expensive immigration process?
Thanx! Cheers =)

The British Empire is long gone hon, and you'll have to go through a long and expensive immigration process. The key is to come to NZ on a tourist visa and look for a job and get someone to sponsor you, OR come on a working holiday scheme try www.immigration.govt.nz for details.

There's no getting away from the fact that at stage if you decide to stay you will have to pay $1400 NZ for a Resident Visa, come to think of it, that's only 460 Pounds. Anyway you can always change your visa in New Zealand if you have a job offer.

BUT, New Zealand is suffering really badly in the Global Crisis, and jobs are very scarce right now, unless you work in IT. So your current chances are quite slim as there are a lot of NZers out of work right now.

Best to wait a year or so.

Depends on your skills and how long you want to stay.

If you are looking at just coming over for a year or so then you can apply for a working holiday visa. But if you want to say longer you will have to go though a longer process and if you have no family in New Zealand already then you will have to apply under the skilled migrant category.

Have as look at http://www.immigration.govt.nz/ for more detailed information about what is required under the different categories and how much it all costs.

I came here on a working holiday visa with my NZ partner, I then applied for residency on the grounds of partnership and it was granted without problem. The process did cost a bit but was not hugely expensive or long winded. I have now lived in NZ for 5 years and I love it.

I know a few people (retired) who spend 6 months in NZ and then 6 back in the UK. Unless things have changed you should be able to spend up to 6 months in NZ on a visitor permit ie free.

Generally New Zealand does not have a pathetic immigration service that lets in criminals, terrorists and over stayers like
the UK, although I have come across a very small minority
there.

There is a criteria to migrate permanently to either New Zealand
or Australia that you would have to meet before you could gain
resideny.

Best to speak or go and see the local New Zealand embassy in your area.
