Can you guys explain the seasons there in NZ?

Compared to many places in the world, all of New Zealand's seasons are quite mild (our summers don't get nearly as hot, nor do our winters get nearly as cold), and although our seasons fall the exact opposite of the northern hemisphere, our location makes our weather quite changeable.

We're caught in the middle of the warm from the equator and the cool from the Antarctic, which makes things interesting. It's not uncommon, no matter what time of year it is, to experience all four seasons in one day.

My advice is no matter when you come to visit, pack for all eventualities, or bring enough money with you to dash out for wet weather gear or shorts!

New Zealand have the exact opposite as us. So from May to September is there winter and now is there summer. I was there last April and it was the beginning of the fall season.

As you may or may not know the Southern Hemisphere has different seasons to the Northern Hemisphere.....Its all due to the tilt of the earth, so when you guys have summer we have winter ( June-Aug) and when you have winter we have summer ( Dec-Feb so just coming out of summer at the moment) and when you have spring we have autumn and when you have autumn we have spring!!

It depends on where you are for the day length hours...the closer to equator the more equal day and night lenght are ( as people at the equator have pretty much the same climate all year round and same day/night length)...the closer you get to the poles the more extreme day/night can be...in winter down south here it has short days and long nights while in summer its quite light until 9-10pm in summer....as you get to Auckland it has less vairations in temperature extremes like some others places in Nz and has day length more equal COMPARED to other places more south.

Everyday it feels like all the 4 seasons expect winter is winter...

Dec - Feb = Summer
Mar - May = Fall
June - August = Winter
Sept - Nov = Spring

There is still light at 8pm but its fading back and later on we will be going back to real time (we are in daylight saving).

Hi there,
It's summer here in NZ at the moment and it's been a scorcha! It's the best summer we've had for a few years. Autumn starts about the end of March then Winter begins about June then Spring in September.

Auckland weather is quite mild compared to the rest of the country, lots of rain though.

We have four distinct seasons December, January, February summer. March, April, May - Autumn. June, July, August Winter and September, October and November Spring.
We have winter rainfall. You can expect temperatures between 13 and 16 degrees Celsius in winter and in the mid 20's in summer. Although we have had a particularly hot summer this season with temps frequently over 30 degrees Celsius.

January- hot, sunny
February- still hot, still sunny
March- still kinda hot, maybe a few overcast days
April - getting colder, but still nice
May- drizzly, wet, and maybe some sun
June- rain, cold, damp
July- rain, cold damp
August- more rain, more cold, even damper
September- rain rain rain rain rain rain
October - still rainy
November- improving
December - it should be summer, but sometimes it still rains

thats about it, hot is like 24 degrees C, cold is like, 12... 13 maybe, but thats just where I am, other places may differ.
